Community

We value community because God does. As Christians, we worship a God of community. He is one God who has eternally existed in three persons known as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is communal by nature and we are created in His image. Therefore as imitators of our God, we emphasize regular participation in each others lives. We meet throughout the week to care for each other and invite others into this family of faith that God is forming. We believe what happens in our lives Monday- Saturday is of equal importance as what happens on Sunday.

Prayer

We Are a Praying Community

We value prayer because God does. When Christ walked the earth, he taught us “always to pray and not lose heart” (Lk 18:1; 21:36). It is no surprise than that the apostle Paul would later call all the churches everywhere to be “constant in prayer” (Rom 12:12), “praying at all times” (Eph 6:18), “continue steadfastly in prayer” (Col 4:2) and to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17). Prayer is the heartbeat of our church and one of the grandest sources of power available to all of our ministries. Therefore, we not only pray corporately on Sundays, individually in our homes, and together when we meet in small groups, but we have a ministry entirely devoted to prayer for the church and city.

Please come join us every Friday night from 6:45 to 7:45pm as we lift our voices to God as a church family (Acts 4:24). Come as your are able (kids welcome!), whether it’s every week or once a month. If you are interested, please contact Chris Gatihi at 408-841-2558 for more information.

Why We Pray

The first humans were created by God as priest-kings, entrusted with the privilege and responsibility to watch over and work the place where God dwelled: the garden.  As Christians, we’ve been re-created by God as priest-kings in Christ, entrusted with the privilege and responsibility to watch over and work the place where God now dwells: the church. Our aim is to devote ourselves to prayer as the early church did (Acts 2:42) because that’s what watchmen do, taking no rest and giving God no rest (Isaiah 62:6-7) until He finishes building His church. We call upon the name of the LORD (Genesis 4:26) to do what He’s told us in the Bible He plans to do for the establishment of His kingdom. One way we express this commitment is by gathering on Friday evenings to lift our voices corporately (Acts 4:24) in confession, thanksgiving, and petitions.

Community Groups

Community Groups

Every Christian has a personal relationship with God, but also belongs to a larger group. Christian faith is not meant to be lived in isolation. For that reason, the local church is not a building or a worship service. Instead the bible describes the church as a people committed to one another, praying for one another and showing love for one another. Jesus taught his disciples that the world would know that they followed him if they had this kind of love for one another.

In authentic community we’re able to disciple one another, encourage one another, serve together and show the world physical proof of God’s transforming power through our love. In practice West Hills sees Community Groups as a place for this to happen.

How do I get involved?

We have groups that meet throughout San Jose. Feel free to contact one of our Community Group leaders and get involved in a group today.

Children & Students

Nursery – Elementary Age

Children are a blessing from God and at Evergreen we are blessed to have lots of them. We have kids varying in age, ethnicity and spiritual development. We take the responsibility of caring for your child very seriously. All of our teachers are experienced and have had background checks. We labor to provide a safe, clean and fun environment for your child to learn timeless truths about Jesus.

Currently we offer the following ministries for children:

Nursery (birth – 2.5 years)

Experienced moms and dads are here to watch your little ones so you can be “hands free” and undistracted while you are in the worship service.

PreK/Kindergarten

We teach preschoolers and kindergartners about Jesus and how He is seen in both the Old and New Testaments. We leverage different modes of communication (words, songs, art) to help them in their understanding each Sunday.

1st-6th graders

Elementary children come into our worship service for the first 30 minutes where they have the opportunity to sing with their parents. There is then a break before the message where elementary students are invited to go to their class where age appropriate lessons are given. The goal of the class is to help children see the treasure that Jesus truly is as He is revealed in the Bible.

Jr High / Sr High

We currently partner with our Morgan Hill congregation to provide ministry to jr. high, high school and college. Visit the ALIVE website to find out more information on our programs.
